Sony’s new iPod botherer
October 8, 2008 by Insider Staff
Sony mightn’t have seen the iPod coming, but has since been doing its damnedest to muscle its way back into the MP3 big leagues. Its latest ear tickler has a few tricks up its slender sleeve to beat off its fruity competitor, and set it apart from rival MP3 players – its focused on delivering sublime sonics and ultra simple music management.
It may have a name slightly more difficult to remember than iPod, but stick with the 16GB Sony NWZ-S639FS and you’ll be rewarded in other ways for going against the grain. The 7.5mm slim songster will dish out a marathon 40 hours of music playback and around 10 hours of video on the trot, putting the iPod nano to shame in the stamina stakes (it only offers 24 hours of music and 4 hours of video).
Top talents
Sparkling sound
Sony has invested on the audio reproduction side of things, so you get super clear sound no matter what you’re listening to, combining a bunch of Clear Audio technologies to ensure the sonics are as velvet smooth as the original source.
Easy loading
With drag and drop support for both Windows Media Player 11 and iTunes, getting your tracks on it is a doddle.
Good to go
Out of the box you’ll find it preloaded with tracks from the likes of the Ting Tings, Sandi Thom and Chris Brown so you can start listening straight away.
Best price: £129.99 on 8 October 2008
