Apple iPod nano 8GB
October 16, 2008 by Insider Staff
The Apple iPod Nano is on its fourth generation now, ditching the squat form of its predecessor. But is this update worthy of your wallet? Read our full review right here.
Pros
The latest nanos are simply a joy to behold, in whatever colour you choose from the rainbow on offer (except perhaps tangerine orange). The elegantly curved aluminium and glass casing feels gorgeously petite in hand and its 37g weight is modest enough to carry all day long in a pocket or handbag. The screen, while small, is pin-sharp and wonderfully bright.
Cons
A 2-inch display is too cramped for viewing video for more than a few minutes, and the nano’s battery life is less than other on test too – around 24 hours of music or 4 hours of video between charges. Remember to ditch the white headphones – they don’t do such a classy player justice.
Verdict
Apple keeps working on its favourite fruit, so the new nano comes with a smart Genius playlist function. This automatically compiles themed playlists from your music collection in iTunes, so you won’t get a jarring drum and bass track while you’re trying to chill out after a big night. It also has a built-in motion sensor that lets you simply shake the nano to shuffle your music, and easy connection with Nike’s iPod+ running system for gym bunnies. A slim (6.6mm) sliver of cool.

- Apple iPod Shuffle reviewThe runt of the iPod litter, the Shuffle gorges itself on 2GB worth of tunes from your iTunes library – it’s okay, you can specify playlists, rather than leaving yourself at the tender mercies of complete randomness – then plays them back.
