Acer Aspire 2920
October 13, 2008 by Insider Staff
If you want the portability of a laptop combined with multimedia abilities of a desktop, consider a machine like the Acer Aspire 2920. Could this be the desktop replacement you need? Read our review and see…
Pros
All notebooks offer a reasonable amount of performance and portability, so if your needs are basic you don’t need to spend a fortune. The Aspire uses an entry-level Intel Core 2 Duo processor supported by 2GB of memory, which is powerful enough to run Windows Vista with ease. What impresses most though is the feel of this notebook, as the build quality is solid and feels great to the touch.
Cons
There’s little to fault: sure the 12.1-inch screen means the keyboard is small and cramped, but it feels sturdy to use. However, the average battery life of around two hours is poor, which makes it fine for use around the house but less ideal for using out and about.
Verdict
Acer wants you to believe this is a multimedia machine but it only half-succeeds in its aims – the screen is great but the sound quality is rather poor. The plastic looks cheap in places but it’s thick and feels tough to the touch. What matters here is that performance is great for the price and on that level it certainly delivers. It has everything you need, such as Wi-Fi and a DVD rewriter, and will make a great first notebook – just don’t expect it to deliver more the basics.
