MSI Wind U100

October 13, 2008 by Insider Staff

MSI Wind U100 The MSI Wind U100 is almost as light as its namesake, but is it cracked up to be a good netbook too? Find out in our review…

Pros
The first of the 10.2-inch Netbooks, this machine is now recognised as one of the best. The 1.3kg chassis feels great and it’s easy to carry around with you. It has a familiar specification to all netbooks of 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and 80GB hard drive, which makes it perfect for running light applications. Given its diminutive size, the keyboard is surprisingly usable.

Cons
There’s little to fault or bemoan here other than battery life. If you play with the power settings you’ll get close to three hours, but don’t expect more straight-from-the-box.

Verdict
MSI has put together a great mini-laptop in the Wind. It’s light, easy to use and because it uses Windows XP, you can load up all your favourite applications. Connectivity includes standard Ethernet as well as built-in Wi-Fi. It doesn’t have a DVD drive but with three USB ports you can add an external drive. The VGA-out port even allows you to connect it to a larger external monitor. If you’re looking for a second laptop, something to carry around with you or simply for surfing the web when sat on the sofa, this is a great choice.
