Asus Eee PC 1000
October 13, 2008 by Insider Staff
Asus started the whole netbook trend last year, and as well as being the size of rabbits, they’ve been going at it like them too. Is the latest addition to the Eee family worth giving a home? Read on to find out…
Pros
The largest and most expensive of the Eee PC range, this Netbook is worth every penny. The 10.2-inch offers a usable 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, so images look good. The larger design allows for a keyboard that has a big, user-friendly layout that is incredibly comfortable to use. The specification is the standard Intel Atom CPU and 1GB of memory that works exceedingly well for everyday tasks.
Cons
Asus offers two models and depending on your choice of OS – Linux or Windows XP – you’ll find different storage on offer. Both uses Solid State, which is great for battery life but the Windows XP model only ships with 12GB, as opposed to 20GB in the Linux version.
Verdict
Asus has more Netbooks than any other vendor and with each release it has learnt from its mistakes and raised the bar. The result is the Eee PC 1000 and its impressive spec list, including three USB ports, SDHC slot and VGA-out port. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi allow you to wirelessly connect to other devices or the internet, and you’ll find it surprisingly quick for surfing. However, the winning ticket is the amazing battery life, which we found to be over five hours without having to mess about with the settings, which can’t be matched by any other model out there.
