Sennheiser unwinds ultra-cheap headphones
March 3, 2008 by Insider Staff
Most MP3 players come supplied with dodgy, tinny-sounding earphones, so a decent pair of in-ear buds is always a good investment – and with the new MX 560 from Sennheiser, that investment doesn’t have to be expensive.
Costing about the same as a couple of albums, these are designed to deliver crisp, bass-driven audio, and the new hook shape means they fit snugly in your lugholes.
Top talents
Sound quality – Sennheiser kit is known for its high quality, and even cheaper models like these deliver a sweeter audio experience than any set of bundled headphones.
Colour options – Want your headphones to shout with their looks as well as their performance? These are available in five colours: red, blue, black, silver and iPod-friendly white.
Accessories – The cable-winder means you won’t have to trail loads of excess wire around, and a carrying pouch keeps everything clean and tidy on the move.
Sennheiser MX560 £19.95 on 3 March 2008.
Closest rivals
Sennheiser PX100
If you prefer an over-the-ear design, Sennheiser’s own PX 100 cans are highly capable, and available for even less than the MX 560s.
Sony MDR-EX71SL
Cheaper than the MX 560s, Sony’s dinky earphones favour a soft silicone in-ear bud that provides a really comfy fit, while the closed design means lashings of powerful bass are delivered.
Philips SHS 4700
These clip-on headphones might not look like the most comfortable option around, but many music fans swear by their non-pokey, non-proddy design, and sound quality is remarkable clear to boot.
