Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77
August 24, 2009 by Insider Staff
As svelte and stylish as dinky digital cameras come, Sony’s smart T77 is out to prove it can perform as well as seduce. Get the full verdict right here…
Pros
When it comes to sheer style, Sony always has an elegantly manicured upper hand. The T77 is the thinnest (15mm) and lightest (126g) camera on test, with a machined metal finish that feels as glossy and urban as a spanking new Vespa scooter. The over-sized sliding lens cover is pure class and the eye-blinding pictures from its 10MP sensor are beautifully warm and flattering. There’s a huge ISO 3200 setting for low light and Face and Smile Detection features galore.
Cons
Some people will love the 3-inch touchscreen but we found it a bit clumsy at times, especially in bright light or when wearing gloves. Its widescreen aspect ratio is a bit of a waste as the camera still shoots in traditional 4:3 format.
Verdict
It’s rare that an all-out style product can hold its own against more traditional designs but the T77 manages it and then some. The slide-down lens cover and large touchscreen mean that it is easy and fairly quick to use, and its 10MP pictures look good enough to grace any catwalk. The Smile Shutter feature is the best in class, reliably tripping the shutter just when your subjects are grinning – handy when taking pictures of younger kids. Perhaps the only drawback is its Gucci-level price.
