Sony PSP gets a facelift

September 9, 2008 by Insider Staff

PSP 3000The world of portable game consoles moves quickly, and it’s been ages since the PSP receive an update. It’s not been forgotten by its master, however, and there’s a new version due to hit soon which promises a much improved screen so you don’t need to check the ambient light conditions before indulging in some virtual bloodshed.

Sony hasn’t put all its improvement dollars into the screen, however. It’s also seen fit to equip the PSP with a microphone, so you can use it to chat away over talk apps like Skype. Thankfully the designers haven’t got carried away and messed with the good parts, so it’s still the same size and shape we all love.

The new screen works fine whether you’re indoors hiding from the rays or outside in direct sunlight, so you can game and go.

Say what?
The built in microphone means you can now make yourself heard if you’re using chat apps like Skype.

Big back catalogue

Thankfully Sony hasn’t messed with a good thing, so all the old games you’ve got will run fine on the souped up hardware.

Coming out: October 15

Going up against
Nintendo DS Lite – Nintendo is still hanging in there with its dual screen gaming touch fest.

Nokia N96 – Load up an N-Gage game or two and you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a mobile gaming console that can also make calls.

Apple iPhone – With the iPhone App Store now open for business, touch screen motion sensing time fillers are but a click away.
