Top 50 Digital Cameras dissected
February 18, 2008 by Insider Staff
Like anything else that has ‘digital’ in its name, there’s no shortage of choice when it comes to digital cameras.
Picking one that does what you want though can be a tricky business. We’ve plucked our favourite snappers from the PriceRunner Top 50.
Have a look, you might just be surprised what you find!
Top of the tree
Canon EOS 400D Black
Best price: £347.94 on 18 February 2008
As the follow-up to the biggest selling DLSR of all time, the EOS 350D, the Canon EOS 400D has big camera boots to fill. But it does so with aplomb flaunting a compact, well constructed body, quick and easy to adjust controls and a truly tasty 10-megapixel sensor. No wonder its top dog.

Rising star
Nikon D60 Black + 18-55mm Lens Kit
Best price: £441 on 18 February 2008
Just teetering outside the top 10, this compact DSLR improves upon the popular D40x with some neat new features. Along with its 10.2 megapixels and 3x optical zoom lens, the D60 features a new dust reduction airflow system and a graphical interface to guide photographic novices through the myriad of settings.

Unsung hero
Canon IXUS 960 IS Silver
Best price: £222.98 on 18 February 2008
Sitting, somewhat surprisingly, half way down the top 50 is probably one of the best IXUS snappers around. It may be weightier than today’s crop of compact cameras but stuffed inside it’s bulky frame is a 12.1 megapixel sensor (awesome for a compact), 3.7x optical zoom plus anti-shake and image stabilising technology to banish the blur.

Loved by experts
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Silver
Best price: £152.98 on 18 February 2008
A 10.1x optical zoom is impressive enough but to find one attached to a compact camera is out of this world. This far-reaching zoom alongside another coup, the 28mm wide-angled lens, got the experts salivating over the Lumix DMC-TZ3, especially with its pocket-sized physique.
