LG big screen wonder
August 15, 2008 by Insider Staff
If your lounge is big enough, then for maximum impact a cinema sized screen is the ultimate must have. For stunning effects and lifelike realness, stick a 50in TV in the corner and then sit back and enjoy the entertainment from a far, as you get lost in the sheer scale of the image in front of you.
If you’ve recently made the jump to Blu-ray then LG’s 50PG4000 50 incher is more than equipped to take advantage of the extra pixels on offer. With support for the highest 1080p standard, you’ll appreciate the additional detail when it’s blown up big and 24fps playback means movies as they were meant to be seen.
Top talents
Super HD
The lower 720p standard may suffice for smaller sets, but if you’re going this big you need 1080p for flawless performance.
Movie machine
With support for 24fps playback, movies will play at the same speed they do in the cinema for authentic reproduction.
Plenty of ports
The three HDMI ports plus component input provides plenty of expansion potential when it comes to adding HD sources at a later date.

Closest rivals
LG 50PB65 – For big screen on a budget, you can’t beat this LG. You’ll miss out on 1080p, but it’ll save you a fair whack for a 50 incher.
Hitachi P50XR01 – If 1080p is non-negotiable, then this Hitachi packs a full 1,920×1,080 pixel panel without breaking the bank.
NEC 60XM5 – If 50 inches won’t even touch the sides, then this NEC stretches to a huge 60in which should be big enough for all but a footballer’s lounge.
