Sony Ericsson C902 Cyber-shot phone

August 7, 2009 by Insider Staff

Sony Ericsson C902With its slinky slimline body, the C902 demonstrates that not all top-end camera phones have to be overburdened in the waistline department. Despite packing a 5-megapixel sensor and an impressive array of built-in editing tools, it’s a mere 10.5mm deep – that’s skinnier than the Apple iPhone!

Granted, Sony Ericsson has dropped the high-powered Xenon flash often seen on camera phones such as the K850i in favour of a weaker LED photo light, but otherwise the photography skills on show are first class. The shots themselves are so sharp and detailed they demand to be printed and displayed, while a mere slide of the lens cover will have the camera ready for action in moments.

The editing tools and settings are speedily accessible via a couple of finger-taps on the touch-sensitive screen, and they include a number of presets to give the best results in different conditions, not to mention face detection (which knows when you’re taking a portrait shot and tweaks the settings to improve it) and the alway-useful auto focus.

And its photo-grabbing talents don’t end there – the integrated motion sensor automatically flips the screen from portrait to landscape when you tilt the phone to better review your shots; and a GPS receiver tags outdoor shots with location data, allowing you to speedily plot your photos on Google Maps when you get home.

Web-crawlers will also be pleased to know that the C902 is kitted out with turbocharged HSDPA talents for ultra fast 3G access, giving it broadband-speed downloads and seriously smart mobile Internet performance.

Verdict
A Xenon flash would’ve made it near-perfect, but even without it the C902 is yet another superb camera phone from Sony Ericsson.
