Fulfill your guitar strumming, drum-bashing dreams with Rock Band 2

August 5, 2008 by Insider Staff

Rock Band 2The original Rock Band was just the opening act. Now Rock Band 2 is warming up to take to the stage and it wants you to face the crowd too. Yes, the video game where you are the band is all set for an encore, and come September you and your buddies will be picking up a microphone, strapping on a guitar, or settling down behind a drum kit (well, a plastic one) to play along with a huge selection of both classic and new music. Spray-on leather trousers and big hair are entirely optional.

The game will arrive first on Xbox 360, with PS3, PS2 and Wii versions following later in the year, and promises new instruments plus hundreds of extra downloadable tracks to master.

Top tracks

From the Allman Brothers to The Who and everything in between, the game offers a huge selection of songs to perform.

Backwards compatible

If you own the original, all the downloaded tracks you’ve paid for will transfer automatically to Rock Band 2.

A cymbal plan
While the original’s instruments work perfectly well, a new, more advanced drum kit will be available. It has cymbals!

Coming out: September

Going up against
Samba De Amigo (Wii) – A simpler rhythm game that has you shaking maracas for all you’re worth. Latin-tastic!

Wii Music (Wii)
– Out before Christmas, Nintendo’s tune-maker lets your musical imagination run riot as you use the Wii’s motion-sensing controllers to play up to 60 instruments.

Guitar Hero World Tour (Xbox 360, PS3) – A full-on rock rival offering drums, vocals and fevered fret-fingering, the fourth Guitar Hero game will also let users create their own music.
