Ask the expert: How can I get more from my Nintendo Wii?
August 17, 2009 by Insider Staff
Q. We’ve had a Wii in the house for months now, but the novelty’s beginning to wear off. There’s only so many games of Wii Sports that’ll keep us entertained, and other titles don’t have the same family appeal. How can I re-capture the fun we had together when it first arrived?
A. You’re right. Wii Sports is a great group game, but there are tons of others too. We’ve pulled out the best buys to put a bit more wow in your Wii, and re-unite your family around the console once more.
Solution 1: Remotes and more!
To get the most out of the Wii you really need more than one remote control. Buying them separately is also a tad expensive, but you can lessen the financial impact by snapping up a copy of Wii Play. Along the same lines as Wii Sports, it’s a fun-packed game made up of short, simple titles, but best of all it comes packaged with an extra Wii Remote.
Solution 2: Move the Wii up a step
If you’re looking for more ways to involve the family, you should check out Wii Fit. It’s a fitness tracker with built in exercise games. Packaged with a wireless exercise board, it’s brilliant fun, and challenges family members to beat each others “fitness scores” too. Grab it, and we guarantee there’ll be a queue in the living room before long!
Solution 3: Hop online
If the Wii’s losing its appeal, check out some of the games you can play online. Mario Kart is an excellent example. It includes a steering wheel attachment for the console’s controller, and lets you challenge friends around the world online. There’s nothing like healthy competition to up the family’s interest levels, and this way you won’t need an extra remote for two people to play.
