Convert your MP3 player to a wireless music machine
June 30, 2008 by Insider Staff
Prising music from your MP3 player can be a tricky process. You need the right cables, the right speakers and even then, you have to stash your player near to whatever kit you’re using to blast tunes.
Not any more though. Convert your MP3 player to a wireless music machine, and you’ll be able to stream sounds without cables. No fuss, no bother. Just follow our simple steps.
Step 1: Add a Bluetooth adapter to your MP3 player, and it’ll spit tunes out in stereo up to 10 meters away from Bluetooth speakers. Because the music comes direct from your player, you can keep it on you, ready to skip tracks at the touch of a button.
Step 2: Can’t find a Bluetooth adapter to suit your MP3 player? Maybe you don’t have space for extra Bluetooth speakers. Then invest in an FM transmitter and send your songs to any radio within range. They’ll work up to a metre or two away, but aren’t as clear as Bluetooth versions, which dodge hiss and crackle using digital technology.
Step 3: Wireless speaker docks – Keep your MP3 player in one place, but enable you to move speakers all over the house, sometimes even further away than using Bluetooth. The disadvantage is that you’ll still need a remote control to change your tunes, but there’s no danger of a dead battery stopping the music.
Must-have accessories
Bluetooth Hi-Fi – Bluetooth speakers are one thing, but nothing beats a proper Hi-Fi with Bluetooth built in. They’re more powerful, and pack in CD players and radios, as well as streaming sounds from your MP3 player.
