Apple’s wonder phone gets a 3G upgrade

June 19, 2008 by Insider Staff

iPhone 3GWhen Apple first launched its touchy feely mobile phone, critics cried out at its lack of 3G support, but it’s no longer stuck in the Internet slow lane thanks to a super fast upgrade.

The iPhone 3G keeps everything good about the first version and adds in some swanky new features making it the must have mobile of the moment.

Apple has also thrown in a proper GPS chip, so the iPhone can now pinpoint exactly where you are, rather than making its best guess based on the mobile signal strength and direction of the wind.

Battery life has also been beefed up, although it has piled on the pounds ever so slightly as a result.

Top talents
3G worldwide – Pretty much wherever you travel in the world you’ll be able to tap into super quick data thanks to its tri-band 3G support.

Satnav servant - With bona fide GPS on board there’s no longer any excuse for getting lost and ending up trawling the backstreets until you see something you recognise.

OS overhaul – The software side of things has also been given a dusting down and you’ll now be able to install third party apps with just a couple of clicks.

Coming out: 11 July

Going up against
Nokia N95 – Satnav? Check. 3G? Already covered. Add on apps? Take your pick. The only thing the Nokia is missing is a touch screen and endless hype.

HTC Touch Cruise (P3650) – Like the anti-iPhone, this touch lover runs Windows Mobile combine with HTC’s own TouchFLO interface for flinger flicking goodness.

Sony Ericsson P1i - Not convinced by the whole touch only thing? Plump for the Sony Ericsson and you’ve got a keyboard to fall back on.
