Introducing the Mangrove 7 tablet

October 2, 2009 by Insider Staff

The Archos 5 tablet a bit too small for you? Check out this C-Motech Mangrove 7 slate then, a stunning 7-inch slice of touchscreen tech running Windows Mobile that almost makes us forget about the Microsoft Courier. It’s choc-a-bloc with kit inside, so read on to find out what it does.

The Apple tablet’s not even out yet, but it’s already getting some strong competition: not only does Microsoft have its own in-house competitor, but new tablets from the land of the rising sun, like the Mangrove 7, to take advantage of Windows Mobile 6.5 too.

As well as boasting a sharp, WVGA screen, the Mangrove 7 stuffs in Qualcomm’s absurdly fast Snapdragon 1GHz processor, plus 3G, Wi-Fi and even WiMAX, and a microSD slot to bolster it up with all your media.

There’s no word on a UK release for the Mangrove 7 MID, but what’s interesting here is that Microsoft’s different operating systems are rapidly converging on tablets (the Windows 7 powered Archos 9 is only two inches bigger) – just as Google’s, Android and Chrome OS, are on portables too. If the Apple tablet runs iPhone OS rather than OS X too, as it’s rumoured to, then come next year a we’re going to see a whole new battle kick off: how smart does your tablet need to be? And what will Microsoft’s Courier wonder wafer run? We’ll let you know as and when.
