2010 release for Microsoft Coruier?
October 1, 2009 by Insider Staff
Since breaking cover last week, the Microsoft Courier tablet has been getting tech-heads hot under the collar – and if an anonymous tipster is correct, it could be out a lot sooner than we’d been expecting.
The mole told ZDNet.com that Courier is an “incubation project”, meaning it’s further along in the production pipeline than a Microsoft Research project but not yet ready for commercialisation. He revealed that Microsoft is working towards a mid-2010 launch, and that the company plans to make the device itself rather than rely on its partners.
Apparently, Microsoft Courier will also run on a modified version of Windows 7, and will be geared up to support cloud-based services and storage. On the user interface front, it will be different from past tablet PCs in that it’ll have a UI specifically geared up to the form factor.
We’ll keep an ear out for more rumours, but at the moment Microsoft itself is saying nothing about the Courier – which still hasn’t been officially announced.
