Vertu fashion phone hits catwalk

The Vertu Constellation Ayxta is the latest upper-crust cellphone from Nokia’s blinging Vertu line, and it’s unquestionably the most expensive clamshell phone ever made. Want to know what you’ll get for a big slice of your annual salary? Read on.

For those with more sense than money, Vertu is a Nokia-owned high-end handset maker, peddling in ludicrously expensive phones, decked out in precious stones and rarely bothering decent smartphones in the specs stakes. Its latest model, the Vertu Constellation Ayxta, has just been made official, and it costs between €4,900 and €6,500 (£4,500-6,000). No, seriously.

For your money, the Vertu Constellation Ayxta comes with a 3 megapixel camera and a microSD slot, 3G connection, and a sapphire crystal screen.
Why buy a dumbphone for this much? In fairness, the cost isn’t the hardware with the Vertu Constellation Ayxta, it’s the concierge service that comes with it. One button press will put you through to a customer service agent ready to carry out your commands, and there’s a new online service for the elite included too (think Yellow Pages for those with wonga).
