Sureshot GPS golfing know-it-all

June 9, 2008 by Insider Staff

sureshot gpsWe all know GPS can assist you in getting from A to Z, but you can also put it to use on the fairway to help you work on your handicap. And no, it’s hardly cheating. Just think of the Sureshot GPS as your very own electronic caddy… although it won’t carry your clubs for you.

While you’ll have no trouble finding your way round holes 1 through 18 – they are pretty well signed after all – the Sureshot GPS uses its satnav skills to calculate the distance from tee to green, ensuring you choose the right club to whack your ball with.

It’s pre-loaded with knowledge on over 12,000 courses, so chances are the one you’re playing will be in there. Once you get back to the clubhouse you can fire up its SureAnalysis application and go through what when wrong over a few whiskeys.

Top talents
Range finder - No need to rely on a human caddy to recommend which iron to use when you’ve got cold hard data to go on.

DIY data – If you happen upon a course that’s no in its memory banks, then you can map it out yourself just by taking a stroll around the green.

Unbeatable battery – With a minimum battery life of 4.5 hours, and more like 7 with typical use, even if you keep landing in the bunker you’ll have plenty of juice to finish the course.

Best price: £215 on 09 June 2008

Closest rivals
Yardage Pro Sport 450 4 x 20 mm – Find out how far you are from the green the old fashioned way with this lightweight range finder that also includes 4x magnification so you can get a close up on your target.

Bushnell PinSeeker 1500 Range Finder (Tournament Edition) – Use the built in laser to work out far you need to hoof your ball, or alternatively turn it on your opponents to weed out any of the stronger competition.

Snooper S290M – If you’ve already got a satnav enabled phone or PDA, you can save a bob or two by opting for a software only version plus it’s one less thing to leave in the clubhouse after celebratory drinks.
