Pioneer ups the satnav stakes
May 30, 2008 by Insider Staff
The Pioneer Navgate 500 hybrid GPS is gearing up to combine the convenience of a portable satnav with the power of a high-end in-dash setup, providing smart GPS routing and a full-blown entertainment hub in one shiny package.
For starters it’s packing a massive 5.8-inch screen, and is loaded with smart navigation features that ensure you’ll never miss a turn. Switch it to entertainment mode and you’ll never want to leave your car again. It swallows SD cards and will belt out the tunes stored on it, plus it will happily hook up to your iPod and play nice with most MP3 players via USB. It’ll also channel your music through its built-in monster amp, ensuring you’re cocooned in a car-full of stunning sonics.
Top talents
Big screen – Not only is the display huge, it’s high-res too, making the map display almost a cinematic experience.
Hubba hubba – The Navgate 500 will also double as your entertainment hub so you can channel all your audio sources through its easy-to-use interface.
Audibly better – The ultra powerful amp is an absolute beast, meaning even your humble car radio will benefit from its audio advancements.
Coming out: June
Going up against
TomTom GO 930T - By tapping into the travel data of millions of anonymous users the Go 930T is clever enough to know the M25 isn’t always worthy of its 70mph limit.
Navman S90i – When you get to where you need to be, you can take a snap or two with the S90i’s integrated camera and your location will be burned into the images.
Blaupunkt TravelPilot Lucca MP3 – To keep you entertained on the road, the Lucca’s MP3 capability playback is much more preferable to yet another round of I spy.
