LG’s talking double touch with KF600
February 21, 2008 by Insider Staff
How do you answer the challenge of Apple’s touchscreen iPhone, HTC’s finger-friendly Touch and myriad digit-driven mobiles from other manufacturers? Install twice the screens of course!
At least, you do if you’re LG.
The KF600 packs dual screens, with the lower accepting instructions from fingers, whether they’re clicking the shutter on its 3-megapixel camera, controlling its built-in MP3 player or zooming in on images with a simple tap.
Slide the phone up and you’ll find a regular keypad too, for traditionalists, and those who need to dial proper digits with their, erm, digits.
Top talents
Haptic feedback - The KF600’s touchscreen offers haptic feedback, which vibrates the phone slightly as contact is made. It’s designed to let you know you’ve hit a button without needing to look at what you’re pressing.
InteractPad - According to LG, that lower screen isn’t a screen at all, it’s an “InteractPad”. Whatever. The truth is it’ll change its display, depending on what you’re doing on the main screen, offering up shortcut keys or extra information.
Bluetooth - You can use Bluetooth headphones (with remote control keys) to control the KF600 as well as using its touchscreen. Seriously, does anybody use proper buttons any more?
LG KF600 £259.99 on 21 February 2008.
Closest rivals
Apple iPhone – One of the world’s finest touchscreen mobiles, and with enough capacity to dwarf the LG, two screens and all.
LG Viewty – A little chunkier than some might like, but with a touchscreen interface and eye-wateringly sharp 5-megapixel camera too.
Samsung F300 – OK, so they’re not touchscreens, but the F300 does have two displays. One’s great for using the phone as a music player, while the other takes care of phone duties. It’s like having two dedicated devices, but only the hassle of carrying one!
