Samsung slides out full-fat HD telly in slender size
May 22, 2008 by Insider Staff
It goes without saying that if you want to soak up the absolute best out of high definition then you really need an eye-poppingly slick Full HD flatscreen. Previously that meant a monster screen that dominates the room, but it’s increasingly becoming available at the 32-inch mark. And the new Samsung LE-32A558P3F LCD telly is leading the charge.
If you’re prepared to splash out on a Blu-ray player or HD games console then it makes sense to pair it up with a panel that can handle the top quality output. The highest standard available is 1080p so if you want to see all the detail on offer, then you’ll need a TV with enough pixels to display it. Up until recently, that has meant shelling out on a super big screen, so if you were pushed for space then you had to miss out. With Samsung’s smart 32-incher, however, you get all the quality in a manageable size display.
Top talents
Highest Def - A Full HD image measures 1920×1080 pixels – that’s four times as much detail as normal TV and twice that of 720p.
Time for your close up – The closer you sit to your TV, the more noticeable the (lack of) detail will be. If your surroundings are cramped, a 1080p set makes sense.
Digital ready – The government has already started turning off analogue broadcasts across the UK. With its built in digital tuner, you’re safe from losing the signal.
Best price: £623.93 on 22 May 2008

Philips 32PFL9603D – This Philips set can also do full HD across its 32 inches, but it will set you back a bit more. In return you get Philips’ Perfect Pixel HD Engine so images look their best and a whopping four HDMI inputs.
LG 37LF75 – If you’ve got the room to go a little larger then this modestly priced LG set adds an extra five inches for hardly anymore. You still get Full HD too, so you won’t be missing out on detail.
