Creative Vado geared up for YouTube duties
May 21, 2008 by Insider Staff
The Vado is a svelte pistol-grip portable pocket camcorder for the YouTube generation. It’s been designed to be ready and always primed to go, so you can just whip it out and capture and upload top-notch footage with as little fuss and fiddling as possible.
Think of the times you could have made a tidy £250 from your mates’ mishaps by sending them into You’ve Been Framed, if only you’d had a quick-draw camcorder to hand. This tough little blighter is perfect to have holstered in your trouser pocket just in case someone takes a tumble.
You’ll be able to crowbar around two hours of 640×480 upload-friendly footage onto its 2GB memory, and the battery conveniently lasts for two hours too – hardly the spookiest of coincidences.
The USB plug is built right in and video software pre-loaded so once you’ve snapped your shot, just plug in and upload away.
Top talents
You’ve been YouTubed – Video sharing sites aren’t going fully HD anytime soon, so there’s no point wasting storage on additional pixels that you won’t need in the short-term.
Pretty in pink? – Ok, no. So maybe stylish silver is more your look. Whichever, there’s a colour choice to suite your mood.
Barely there – Even with the battery onboard the Vado’s lithe frame weighs in at a mere 84g – that’s less than a bar of chocolate.
Coming out: TBC
Going up against
Panasonic SDR-SW20 – This Panny can take more than a splash or two – it’ll keep on shooting in a meter and a half of salty seawater.
Sony HDR-TG3 – Like a supermodel, but able to gobble up a feast of pin-sharp footage, this skinny Sony is the world’s smallest high definition camcorder.
Disgo Video (DV3) – It may be low-res, but it’s low rent too, making it the digital equivalent of a disposable camera.
