Siemens next-gen home phone

Siemens_Gigaset_S685_IP_TwinGone are the days when your home phone was simply a dumb device that just let you make calls. With mobiles getting ever more advanced, cordless handsets have had to step up their game to compete, and the Siemens Gigaset S685 IP Twin Bluetooth home phone isn’t shy to oblige.

The latest models, like this smart home phone have borrowed a feature of two from the mobile world, so you can now expect a full address book rather than a paltry ten-speed dial shortcuts. There’s even Bluetooth thrown in, so you can use a wireless headset or sync your numbers with a PC.

It can also switch between normal and cheaper VOIP calls at the touch of a button, giving it one advantage over a regular mobile blower.

Top talents
Look no wires – No need to get tied down as it supports DECT and Bluetooth giving you two wireless technologies for the price of one.

Flexible connections – It’ll happily talk to the normal phone network, but if you want to save a bob or two then you can make cheaper calls via your broadband line instead.

Message centre – SMS support is a given in a home phone these days, but the Siemens doesn’t stop there with email as well, plus support for instant messaging too.

Best price: £144.99 on 16 May 2008
