EA: more console updates on the way
September 1, 2009 by Insider Staff
Top EA bod’ Rich Hilleman has thrown in his tuppence worth about plans for the next–generation of the very hottest consoles. After the PS3 Slim and the cheapo Xbox 360 Elite, he reckons both Sony and Microsoft will hedge their bets and release basic updates before unleashing full–on next–gen models.
Speaking at a games business conference, Hilleman said both Sony and Microsoft had taken so long to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 onto shelves in the first place, that releasing a next–gen model soon wasn’t worth it.
“I expect we’ll see a PlayStation 3.5 before we see a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox 560 before we see an Xbox 720,” he said.
It certainly makes sense at the moment. Spanking new consoles costs millions to make and set punters back record sums too, something no one wants to do, what with no one having any cash to speak of right now.
And with Project Natal and Sony Motion Control round the corner, you can bet there’s a few years left in the newly minted PS3 Slim and Xbox 360 yet.
