Xbox 360 Slim “not happening”
August 31, 2009 by Insider Staff
Microsoft has put paid to rumours of a sleek new Xbox 360 Slim by insisting that the console has plenty of life left in it in its current form and that the company has no plans to try and squeeze it into a smaller case.
As soon as Sony revealed the PS3 Slim and rumblings began about Microsoft firing back with an Xbox 360 price cut, tentative rumours were heard about a possible slimline version of the 360. It seemed so obvious – Microsoft was to ditch one or more of its Xbox models, which would leave room for a bite-sized replacement.
Not so, says Microsoft, in fact the current models have a lot more life in them yet.
“We feel like our system has done very well for us in the current form,” 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg told Kotaku.com. “We have no plans for a slim.”
Rather than try to saw the end off the console and make cosmetic changes, Microsoft seems committed to making the most of the existing 360 and not abandoning current owners. “We feel that we’re not even at the halfway point,” said Greenberg, “People have invested in these consoles, and we have massively connected communities and we have storage. I think what we did with the New Xbox Experience is a sign of what we want to do with the console.”
