Nokia Nseries phone to get touchy… like iPhone
August 28, 2009 by Insider Staff
In Espoo it never leaks, it pours. With the Nokia N97 Mini and N900 internet tablet already all but official, as well as word of a second Nokia netbook already, there can’t be much left for the Finns to unveil at Nokia World in Stuttgart next month? Right? Wrong. A ton of new rumours just came away in a mudslide, including one great bit of gadget gossip: the Nokia Nseries could be getting capacitive touchscreen technology, just like the iPhone. Huzzah!
Now then, take this with the regulation daily limit of salt, but German site NokiaPort’s got a tasty round-up of what it claims are confirmed rumours for Nokia’s smartphone strategy. Pick of the litter though is word Nokia fans have been dying to hear: the Nokia Nseries will make the jump from resistive to capacitive touchscreen tech, which powers the likes of the iPhone, Palm Pre and HTC Hero.
Layman’s terms, lads: that means you’ll eventually be able to swoosh around on the touchscreen (maybe even with multitouch for zooming) and type with your own fingers, rather than poke around with the absurd stylus/plectrum Nokia saw fit to bundle the N97 with.
We wouldn’t expect to see anything on this in Germany come September, but it’s a logical progression for Nokia and a step we hope it takes sooner rather than later, with the likes of HTC and comeback kid Palm really refining their must-have mobiles of late. We’ll bounce back with more when we get it.
