Sony unveils Blu-ray bonanza
August 12, 2009 by Insider Staff
Sony has launched a huge new range of Blu-ray home cinema systems. In fact, they’ve unveiled no less than seven new one-box systems, each serving up both eye-popping HD video and eardrum-battering audio.
Heading up the new range are the Sony BDV-E300 and Sony BDV-E800W, two systems that each shift a massive 1000W of audio power courtesy of an S-Master digital amp. The Sony BDV-E300 has five compact satellite speakers and a subwoofer (with the rear speakers upgradeable to wireless), while the Sony BDV-E800W totes a quartet of floorstanders (the rear two wireless as standard) and a centre channel, plus a subwoofer. Both models support BD-Live, 24p, x.v.Colour and on the sound front, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. There’s also a Digital Media Port for hooking up iPods, Walkmans, mobile phones and Bluetooth kit.
Next up is the Sony BDV-Z7, a 2.1-channel system that delivers what Sony describes as “great surround sound” using S-Force Front Surround tech. There’s 350W of power in total, plus all the features you find in the BDV-E300 and BDV-E800W.
Then there are four more systems, each based around the existing Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player. Each team up the player with amplification and speaker packages, featuring all the goodies of the above systems but also adding three HDMI inputs, which means you can hook up external gear (Sky HD box, PS3 etc.) to take advantage of the audio.
The Sony BDV-360FS has 400W of power and 2.1 speakers with S-Force Front Surround; the Sony BDV-360IS (not pictured) has five golf ball-sized speakers and a subwoofer; the Sony HTP-BD36SS uses compact satellites with wireless-ready rear speakers; and lastly the Sony HTP-BD36SF uses four floorstanders.
Sony has yet to confirm prices or release dates for the Blu-ray systems, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details.
