Updated SlingPlayer app for iPhone incoming

Remember SlingPlayer, the iPhone app that lets you remotely view whatever’s on your home TV (via a Slingbox)? Well, it’s looking all set for an upgraded 1.1 version – but there’s still no 3G support.

SlingPlayer for iPhone 1.1 has been submitted to Apple for approval, and among the new features are true 16:9 widescreen support, a better remote control interface and all-round zippier performance.

The original app’s 3G function was removed at the request of US iPhone carriers AT&T, despite the SlingPlayer mobile app for the likes of Symbian and BlackBerry supporting it. That meant users could only watch TV over a Wi-Fi connection.

SlingMedia says that while this version of SlingPlayer 1.1 will not add 3G support, they do have a nugget of good news for us: they’ve submitted another version of the app, intended for use outside of the US – and it does support 3G. If Apple gives it the green light, the iPhone will finally have a SlingPlayer app worthy of the name.
