New breed of bright-spark torch takes the driving seat
May 7, 2008 by Insider Staff
Torches, the unsung heroes lighting up the gizmo world, from the biff-you-around-the-head heavy duty bruisers to your average housebound illuminator. But what you see here is a new breed entirely – The Spotlight is a tiny powerful torch that sucks power from your in-car cigarette lighter, making it a dead handy accessory.
And here’s an odd one… it’s waterproof too!
It’s hard to believe but this pocket-dwelling anodised aluminium clad illuminator weighs a mere 45g games and measures a slight 5cm. But despite being a mini marvel it’s still got incredible nerve with a five-watt bulb that shoots forth a bright and powerful shaft of light.
Top talents
Got a light? - The car glove box is the perfect place for The Spotlight to hangout but should its juice run dry, just slot the torch into the car’s Cigarette lighter and it will recharge, ready for action.
Aqua baby – The Spotlight isn’t just a dry land dweller and it can go for a dip in water up to a whopping 15 metres. Perfect for seeing where you are when skinny-dipping in a lake in the dead of night.
After hours - You would expect such a pint-sizer to have the constitution of a Panda after a bamboo banquet but with a rechargeable NiMH battery it will shed light for a plucky two hours.
Coming out: May 2008
Going up against
Inova Microlight (Blue case with Blue LED) – This micro miracle can fire a 50 foot focused blue light with a visibility of up to one mile. That sort of distance puts the Bat-Signal’s range to shame.
Princeton TEC Blast (Black) – Waterproof torches are many but the TEC Blast is a veritable free-diver, able to swim to 100 metre watery depth and still shine on. Is that a world record?
Maglite Boxed Mini Mag AA Torch (Midnite Blue) – This classic pencil-thin shiner is mined from rugged aluminium, with a reassuring 182g heft gram and metallic torso to withstand a few dates with hard ground.
