Sony printer plays nice with HD tellies
May 6, 2008 by Insider Staff
Sony has let loose its smart little DPP-FP95 photo printer. But there’s more to this dinky digital picture spitter than meets the eye.
As well as being an ultra plush compact photo printer, Sony’s dinky box also doubles as friend for your high definition flatscreen.
Hooked up to your HD telly, the Sony DPP-FP95 acts as a Hi-Def photo viewer, sending your shots to the big screen for some slick slideshow action.
Plus, it has all the hallmarks of a pint-sized photo-printer with wireless connectivity to compatible Bluetooth devices, and slots for all of the common memory card formats covering all the bases,
Top talents
HD Ready – Realising that many people now own an HD Ready TV, Sony believes we will want to view our 12-megapixel photos on the big screen, which of course, we do.
Wireless – With Bluetooth built-in, this printer should connect to any compatible Bluetooth camera or phone without having to resort to (shudder) a cable.
Loose slots – Alongside the obligatory Sony Memory Stick slot, you’ll find readers for SD, CompactFlash or xD media used by most digital camera makers.
Best price: £119.99 on 6 May 2008
Closest rivals
Canon Pixma Mini 220 - The print quality is holds up despite the low price and you can connect directly to PictBridge cameras and PCs wirelessly by infrared. Bluetooth is also an option.
Epson PictureMate Zoom PM 290 – It’s footprint is smaller than a sheet of A4 paper, but you get a lot of functionality with this 5600dpi inkjet with a Bluetooth interface and a CD tray at the bottom.
HP Photosmart D7160 – HP’s smart inkjet offers similar functionality, but requires a little more real estate on your desk, but that does mean you can stuff it with up to 100 pages of A4.
