New HD channels coming to Virgin Media

July 13, 2009 by Insider Staff

Virgin MediaVirgin Media is adding four new HD channels to its line-up, bringing LIVING HD, FX HD, MTVNHD and National Geographic HD to its service at the end of the month.

The new HD channels will be available at no extra cost to Virgin Media XL TV customers at the end of July, delivering shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter and Next Top Model in eye-tingling clarity, and with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

The inclusion of LIVING HD to Virgin Media also means high profile shows such as CSI and Most Haunted will appear in customers’ EPGs with a new level of detail.

The new MTV channel, MTVNHD, will offer a selection of HD content, rather than a simulcast of any existing MTV channel. On the cards are MTV Unplugged sessions, and high profile live events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards. The channel will also pull double duty as a kids channel, broadcasting hit Nickelodeon shows in HD each Saturday and Sunday morning. And yes, that included SpongeBob SquarePants.
As well as announcing the new channels, Virgin Media says it is in “active talks” with UKTV to bring Good Food HD to the service.
