New Sony Vaio P this autumn

July 10, 2009 by Insider Staff

Sony Vaio PThe Sony Vaio P is about to get a rejig, with a sharp new model making its way to minted gadget maniacs in October. That’s according to a Sony rep, who let slip the news at the launch of the Sony Vaio W netbook. So it seems that the Sony Vaio P isn’t dead after all.

The Big S took geeks everywhere by surprise this week with the launch of the Vaio W netbook. But that doesn’t mean it’s curtains for the Vaio P. Quite the opposite. A Sony rep has dropped word that the wallet walloping Vaio P will in fact get a refresh, with a new version out by October.

The new Vaio P will apparently come with a speedier boot time. And surely that can mean only one thing: Windows 7. When we tinkered with the original Vaio P, we found Vista crippling the tiny terrier, so Windows 7 should give a far faster experience. Conveniently, that October release date dovetails nicely with Windows 7’s 22 October unveiling.

One thing you can be sure of: the price will not be going south. At the moment you need to fork out a frankly insane £700 for a Vaio P. Surely you’d rather get your mitts on a Sony Vaio W netbook instead?
