New iPod range to shoot video?

July 6, 2009 by Insider Staff

Apple iPod familyWe’ve heard whispers the new iPod range might have a camera built in, but new rumours claim that the line-up could shoot video, just like the iPhone 3GS. And yes, that might even include the iPod nano. Intrigued? Read on to find out what to expect.

Thanks to its combination of a decent quality sensor, fast YouTube uploading and easy editing, the iPhone 3GS has set a new standard in how video should work on a phone, but so far any sort of camera, video or still, has been missing from the iPod touch. That could be about to change though, according to sources in Asia.

TechCrunch has it on good authority that Apple has ordered a huge number of camera modules similar to that used in the iPhone, and in a quantity so large it can only mean that a new iPod touch would be getting recording capabilities too.

Not only that, but market sources are even speculating that the order is in such bulk that it could mean the camera modules are headed to the iPod nano too. This isn’t certain of course, but it does chime with previous rumours of the new iPod nano packing a camera. Would it shoot video too, is the question? Expect an answer at Apple’s new iPod event, likely later on this Summer.
