Nokia Android phone coming September
July 6, 2009 by Insider Staff
Plans for a Nokia Android phone appeared less likely than the Finns giving up this mobile malarkey for good and going back to making Wellington boots. But now reports are emerging of a Nokia Android phone getting an official launch at Nokia World in September. Read on to find out just what’s going down.
The Guardian has got hold of word from inside sources who say a Nokia Android phone, packing a full touchscreen, will be shown off at Nokia World in Stuttgart on 2 and 3 September.
While specs remain scarce, the move undoubtedly puts Nokia’s very own Symbian Foundation in a tight spot. Set up in June 2008, it was clearly touted as a rival to Google’s plans for mobile domination through Android’s open source powers.
But with fellow Symbian Foundation pals Sony Ericsson and Motorola both prepping Android phones, it appears a Nokia Android cell is now a dead cert.
The question now is whether a Nokia Android blower can give Google’s excellent OS the push it needs to give the iPhone a battering. Perhaps this tie up is the much–vaunted multitouch monster we caught wind of a couple of months back? Come on Nok, spill the beans.
