iPhone SDK firmware 3.1 available to developers

July 2, 2009 by Insider Staff

iPhone 3GSiPhone OS 3.0 has barely been out for a couple of weeks and Apple has already released iPhone SDK, firmware 3.1 beta to those signed up to its developers program.

iPhone SDK, firmware 3.1 is more than just a patch to fill in some of the holes in iPhone OS 3.0, although that is certainly part of the package. As well as tying up some loose ends and fixing some outstanding bugs reported since the OS release, iPhone SDK firmware 3.1 will contain the first bits of new functionality for the next iPhone OS version for developers to play with.

While the reaction to iPhone OS 3.0 was generally positive, uptake among iPod Touch owners has been slow and problems with overheating 3GS phones will need to be addressed, assuming there is a software solution.

The iPhone SDK firmware 3.1 is only available to developers who have paid Apple for the privilege and they will be bound up by non-disclosure agreements that make MI6 look like blabbermouths,so there are no details as yet as to the kind of new features we will be talking about. It is not impossible that there will be a leak, though, so watch this space. We would be particularly pleased if this patent for in-call music sharing were to be implemented.
