NVIDIA Tegra phone coming to T-Mobile?

NVIDIA Tegra phones are about to move from the prototype stage to fully-fledged smartphone and, according to rumours, it will appear on T-Mobile later this year.

NVIDIA’s Tegra platform promises to bring high speed, HD quality graphics to smartphones and can offer big savings on power usage too. After impressing us with a host of 3D-capable devcies at Computex last month, we have been waiting for news of a proper NVIDIA Tegra smartphone and now NVIDIA’s Mike Rayfield has revealed that one of the ‘big five’ manufacturers will be releasing the first Tegra phone in Q4 this year.

NVIDIA promise that the Tegra chipset can pump out high quality graphics but only use a small amount of power, offering a battery that can last ‘for days and days’. Specs of the new phone are uncertain, of course, but rumours suggest 720p video with 3D acceleration and the likely inclusion of an HDMI port for HD output to a telly or monitor.

While we don’t know which manufacturer will be making the NVIDIA Tegra phone, NVIDIA’s Peter Ha has revealed that the phone will be making its way to T-Mobile (and AT&T in the US) at around $199.
