Nikon D3000 incoming?

There’s no official word from Nikon but shots that appear to show a brand new DSLR have popped up online. The D3000 looks to be a stripped down version of the D5000 which was released last month.

The D3000 seems to be a considerably smaller beast than its bigger brother the D5000 – ditching the swing-down LCD monitor.

The camera connoisseurs at Lenstip have taken a close look at the image and come up with a few more conclusions. There’s no visible microphone and the cover of connectors is smaller than on the D5000 so it probably won’t have an HDMI connection. Add that all up and it’s likely that the D3000 won’t do video.

As an entry-level option, the D3000 could supersede the 10MP D60, adding features like a 12MP sensor and Live View as well as some of the functions found on the D5000 like scene recognition and face detection.

Meanwhile more images purporting to show the Nikon D300s are doing the rounds. They could be the work of a Photoshop happy Nikon nut but if they’re real it looks like the D300 upgrade could add video recording. Whispers suggest that could be 720p. This follows screen shots that “accidentally” slipped out of Nikon HQ last week.

There’s no official word on either the D300s or the D3000 but check back for further updates.
