HTC Hero available for pre-order at Amazon

June 30, 2009 by Insider Staff

HTC-HeroGot your eye on the delectable HTC Hero? Amazon UK now has the touchscreen smartphone available for pre-order. It’s unlocked and SIM free; ideal if you’re not tempted by Orange and T-Mobile’s contract offerings.

The HTC Hero is definitely the best looking Android handset we’ve seen so far, with a slim chassis and sexy white finish. It also has a 3.2-inch TFT-LCD, 320×480 pixel resolution screen on board, a five megapixel camera, 3G, WiFi, GPS and digital compass.

Amazon has set the price at £429.99. It’s not cheap, but arguably a better deal than the £440 iPhone 3GS, which is currently still locked to O2. The lack of internal memory in the HTC Hero is a sticking point though.

Amazon expects the HTC Hero to start shipping on July 15. Looks like it’s the white version only, so you’ll need to go with Orange or T-Mobile to get the graphite and black models respectively.
