Optoma unveils new projectors
June 26, 2009 by Insider Staff
Optoma has announced two new projectors for home cinema enthusiasts. The Optoma HD20 and ThemeScene HD86 offer full 1080p HD resolutions with DLP technology; the HD20 scores an industry first with its price point being set below £900. At the same time, Optoma has confirmed its plans to adopt 3D technology, with a prototype model on display at the CEDIA event in London.
For those that don’t want to chuck thousands of pounds at an indoor cinema complex, the Optoma HD20 claims to be the first HD DLP projector to break below the £900 mark. For the money though, you get 500:1 ANSI contrast, 1700 ANSI lumens and 2 x HDMI inputs.
Conversely, if you DO have thousands of pounds to throw around, you’ll be wanting the Optoma ThemeScene HD86, which sports professionally tuned image processing with Puremotion2, 700:1 ANSI contrast and 3 x HDMI inputs. You even get a choice of optional lenses to suit your living room, consisting of short, standard and long throw.
Optoma also had a prototype HD65 projector at CEDIA yesterday running 3D technology; however, the only difference between it and the currently available HD66 is that it’s running new firmware. The movie industry is gearing up for a major 3D push sometime next year, but in the meantime NVIDA has stolen a march with its new 3D Vision technology, which is ideally suited for whopping great projector screens.
Excitingly, Optoma revealed that 3D-Ready versions of all its projectors may be coming along in the near future. For existing models, all that’s needed is a firmware update.
