Top 50 Nintendo Wii games dissected

April 29, 2008 by Insider Staff

Nintendo WiiNintendo’s motion controlled mini machine is most successful games console out there, with a legion of loyal fans and an equally formidable catalogue of games in tow.

We’ve played our way through the top 50 Wii titles and with aching thumbs (hey, someone has to), and cherry-picked the ultimate titles that are worthy of wearing your thumbs down to the bone.

Mario Kart WiiTop of the tree
Mario Kart Wii

Best price: £29.73 on 29 April 2008
It’s no surprise to find Mario Kart hogging pole position. The online multiplayer tarmac-mashing action of Nintendo’s best racer to date is reason enough to indulge. Anyone that got hooked on previous incarnations will be relieved that Mario and the gang are karting on smart twists of favourite imaginative courses. Much better with a Wii steering wheel though, for the full motion-control experience.
Closest rival: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)

Dancing Stage Hottest PartyRising star
Dancing Stage Hottest Party + Dance Pad (Wii)
Best price: £34.49 on 29 April 2008
Konami’s popular dancing game leaps into the Top 50 in a strong position, and it’s likely to climb further when word of its brilliantly cheesy tunes and new hilarious dancing shenanigans spreads. The Eurobeat versions of popular hits are wonderfully naff, so it’s impossible not to get sucked into the mat-stomping action once you’re in the groove and busting some shapes… er, whatever that means.
Up against: Wii Play (incl. Wii controller)

Resident Evil 4Unsung hero
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Best price: £22.99 on 29 April 2008
Nintendo might have the younger fan base, but that’s not stopping Capcom from bringing its brain-scoffing zombie-fest to the Wii. Resi has slipped to the bottom of the charts, but its unbelievably stunning visuals and bloodthirsty action haven’t waned. This is an all-time classic and mustn’t be missed!
Up against: Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii)

Guitar HeroLoved by experts
Guitar Hero 3 (Including Guitar) Wii
Best price: £56.99 on 29 April 2008
The buzz surrounding the Guitar Hero franchise is like the feedback at an AC/DC gig and the rock sim seems particularly at home on the Wii. Thrashing a plastic axe a la Slash really shouldn’t be so much fun. Once you start strumming you seriously will find it virtually impossible to stop. You have been warned!
Up against: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
