Zune HD to get Tegra graphics!

June 23, 2009 by Insider Staff

Zune HDWord came through on the grapevine that the Zune HD would sport NVIDIA Tegra graphics last week, but now it’s official: Microsoft says the OLED PMP will be powered by it, promising beautiful visuals and better battery life. Is it enough to tackle the iPod touch?

Until now, Microsoft’s been keeping schtum on what’s inside the Zune HD, but on a recent official Zune Insider podcast, Microsoft staffer and presenter Matt Akers confirmed that the Zune HD ould use the NVIDIA Tegra chipset, saying it’s “like a mini laptop in your hand”.

Tegra itself is capable of 1080p video output via HDMI, and while the Zune HD will only do 720p playback, it still promises slick rendering and speedy switching on the Zune HD’s glossy UI, plus prolonged battery life, essential when video is such a drain on PMPs. Now, all we need is a UK release for the Zune HD and we’re sorted. Care to oblige, Microsoft?
