LG TVs to channel 1080p online video

LG has just inked a deal with chip maker ARM to start using its processors in the next generation of web-connected TVs, meaning widgets are about get a whole lot smarter and faster, and even 1080p video streaming services won’t be a problem.

You might know ARM as the chip maker responsible for powering a whole range of phones, including the iPhone 3G S, but it’s just signed a deal with South Korean giant LG to use its technology in LG’s web-friendly HDTVs.

Internet widgets are becoming par for the course in new TVs, but with ARM’s Mali-200 and Mali-400 graphics processors, LG TVs will be able to go the extra mile, rendering 1080p streaming video with ease and pulling up all sorts of slicker looking, faster widgets and even full on web browsing.

There are no details about when we’ll be seeing this tech hitting the shelves in LG tellies, but given that internet widgets were the big craze at CES year, perhaps a whole new and better bunch will be present next January.
