Acer Android phone arriving November

June 12, 2009 by Insider Staff

AndroidAcer plans to release its first Android powered mobile phone in November, a couple of months later than we first thought.

Acer’s first foray into producing an Android smartphone was due in September, we had been told. Still, what’s a couple of months when you are used to Windows Mobile and are trying out a whole new mobile OS?

Acer confirmed its intentions after some rather coy hints were dropped at the Mobile World Congress back in February in the form of handset sketches in an Acer exec’s notepad. The new Android mobile is set to be on of nine new handsets that Acer is launching this year – the others not straying far from its Windows Mobile comfort zone.

No official specs of the ‘Acer A1? have been released, but a leak to the Philippines Business Mirror earlier this year suggested it was definitely a touchscreen device aimed at the smartphone end of the market rather than an off-message hybrid like the ill-fated Kogan Agora.
