Sony Bravia Z5500 gets eco twist!

April 30, 2009 by Insider Staff

Sony Bravia Z5500Take a gander at the Sony Bravia Z5500 – a new television range for the vision specialists Sony that comes packing more tech than Robocop (we know that’s an old reference, but we were struggling!) and enough eco-friendly widgets to give Al Gore a frisson.

Top of the Sony Bravia Z5500’s feature list is the Motionflow 200Hz, which gives the screen a frame rate four times as much burst, quadrupling it from 50fps to 200fps! Couple that with Image Reduction blur, and you’ll have images that are so clean Kim and Aggie would approve.

You also get an Ethernet socket which opens the Bravia Z5500 up to DLNA media streaming (from a PC or DLNA-enabled media server) and AppliCast, Sony’s selection of online services. This lets you access RSS feeds and view widgets on-screen while you’re watching TV.

This is the bit Gore and his eco-munchkins have been waiting for: Sony has kitted the Bravia Z5500 with an “Idle TV” function that’s effectively a screensaver and automatically switches off the TV if there’s no input signal for a set period of time, saving power and the planet! A true green television if ever there was one.

Available in 40, 46 and 50-inch sizes, the full-HD Sony Bravia Z5500 range of LCD TVs starts from around £1,800.
