Sky HD hits one million subscribers!
April 30, 2009 by Insider Staff
It appears that Sky HD is really taking hold of the British public, with Sky announcing that in the past year alone the amount of people in the UK subscribing to the service has doubled to a whopping million!
So the Sky HD army has well and truly developed, with the broadcaster claiming that in the last three months alone a Sky+ HD box has been sold every 30 seconds. That’s an extraordinary figure, considering that we’re currently gripped by the worst recession this country’s seen for 60 years!
So what’s cause this massive upturn in fortunes? Well, firstly Sky has vastly increased its High-Definition content, with more High-Definition movie, sport, and documentary channels than ever before (33 in total), almost completely leaving its rivals (Freesat and Virgin Media) in its wake. Let’s not forget too, that Sky has been rolling out its new user-interface, giving the whole package a fresh feel.
But possibly the largest factor, though, is the price drop to £75. While the early adopters (us included) splashed out a whopping £300 for the Sky+ HD box, you can now snaffle one up for under a ton. A snip for HD sexiness. The next step? Sky 3D!
