Apple iPhone sales soar!

April 23, 2009 by Insider Staff

Apple iPhoneSo, Apple’s first quarter financial results are in for 2009 and it appears that the company from Cupertino is actually immune to the recession after all, posting record non-holiday profits and soaring iPhone 3G sales.

Apple must be wondering what all the fuss about this global credit crunch is, because if their financial figures for the first three months of the year are anything to go by, the Apple is healthier than its ever been in its 33-year history. Apple’s profits after tax jumped to $1.2 billion or £836 million. Okay that may be a drop in the ocean compared to the £175 billion the government is borrowing, but it’s hefty figures nonetheless.

One reason for such impressive financial figures is the fact that the iPhone has had a particularly pleasing three months. Apple sold an astonishing 3.79 million iPhones, highlighting our continued fascination with the wonder phone. But it wasn’t just down to the iPhone. Both iPod (11.1 million units) and Mac (2.1 million units) outsold forecasts.

These figures prompted Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s chief financial officer, to say that “the company’s second fiscal quarter was its best non-holiday quarter in sales and profit terms in history”.

All in all then Apple can feel pretty pleased with themselves. And as for the recession… well, what recession?
