Panasonic unleashes new Lumix cameras

What’s this? a new job-lot of Lumix cameras from Panasonic? The DMC-FS12, FS62 and FS42, you say? You know what we say? Bring them on…

So why exactly should we sit up and be snapped by Panasonic’s new range of compact cameras? Well, these aren’t just packing the trademark Lumix looks. These beauties are also carrying a DC Vario Leica Lens. Helps if you like to drop names.

First up then, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-HS12. Able to capture 12-megapixel snaps, it has a 4x optical zoom, Intelligent ISO control, Intelligent Scene Selector (so, we can assume it’s pretty intelligent), face detection and digital red-eye correction. It’s also got a 2.7-inch LCD for framing up shots like a sniper framing up a target. Plus, you’ll be able to fire off 330 shots before your battery dies.

Following the HS12 like Barrichello follows Button, it’s the FS62. Pretty similar, if truth be told, to its big brother, this one houses a 10.1-megapixel sensor, a 2.5-inch screen and a battery that’ll last for 370 snaps. This also throws in VGA and QVGA movie shooting.

Bringing up the rear, it’s the FS42. The youngest of the set it’s a bit like Stephen Baldwin. Not quite as talented as its brothers, but still worth taking a look at. It has a 4x optical zoom, 10-megapixel sensor, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection, a 2.5-inch screen, and movie-capturing functions. This does, though, have a big battery – capable of snapping 390 pics.

All the models will be available in a number of colours this summer. No prices announced yet, though.
