Sony rolls out its round PC!
April 12, 2008 by Insider Staff
When Sony’s consumer electronics and IT divisions collide, the result is a highly original multimedia PC in the shape of the VGX-TP2SB.
Once it’s suckered you in with it’s killer curves, it makes sure you hooked with a host of hi-def smarts.
Sony first came up with the concept of circular PC a couple of years ago as a living room-friendly Media Centre PC in startling white. It met with mixed reviews, but now it’s back in black – a nice glossy one at that – and with all the connectivity and functionality you could need in a home entertainment PC hub. The Blu-ray player is certainly a bonus for movie fans and the HDMI output is essential for upscaled video output. Sony’s interface isn’t the slickest, but Windows MCE is also installed.
Top Talents
Blu-ray movies – Unsurprisingly, Sony has installed a drive that can read and write hi-def Blu-ray discs. Offering five times the quality of standard definition, its beaten HD-DVD in the high definition showdown, and is the definitely the format of choice.
HDMI – As one of the very few PCs to offer one of these, it has the major advantage of sending upscaled video directly to your flatscreen TV.
Design – The perfectly round design conceals all of the usual USB ports and AV sockets making you want to swallow it whole like a shiny black pill.
Best price: £849 on 10 April 2008
