Epson EMP–TW1000 review
April 24, 2009 by Insider Staff
If you like your projectors stylish and user-friendly then look no further folks, because the Epson EMP-TW1000 is all the above. The question is though, does it have the features and picture quality to match the lofty price tag?
Pros
There’s no doubting either the style or usability of this LCD–based projector. The TW1000 looks gorgeous and will suit any gadget fan who likes their kit to look special as well as serve up the requisite tech treats. And there’s plenty of substance to be getting on with – 1,200 lumens and a lush 12,000:1 contrast ratio to name but two. Pull it from the box and within five minutes you’ll be beaming HD pictures using the HDMI port and even standard def via the somewhat old–school Scart.
Cons
For all the good looks and tidy spec sheet, the Epson does lack when it comes to the deeper blacks offered by the other LCD on test, the Sony, as well as the best of the DLP models, the InFocus and Sanyo. Once scenes get dark, you’ll be peering and squinting to see exactly what’s going on.
In summary then…
Epson has made a good stab at taking on the bigger players in the HD projector market. But the fact is the TW1000 doesn’t quite live up to the might of its competitors on test here. It’s a worthy attempt, but being priced higher than the InFocus, it has to be said that you’d be better off going for a cheaper DLP model, in spite of the bulk.
